Personal statement

Sally Booth is a visual artist whose main specialism is drawing and painting. She has also undertaken collaborative projects with sculptors and poets. Her work has included 3D drawing installations, such as a specially designed structure outside the National Theatre on the South Bank, which she made with ACAVA sculptor Tim Norris. As a freelancer, she also teaches drawing and painting to private pupils locally, runs art classes for visually impaired adults, and works in galleries and museums facilitating arts workshops.

Artistic Statement

I make and build up my work on the spot from walks, meeting people and exploring an area. I enjoy the directness and physicality of working outdoors, using unconventional drawing materials and wide angle, panoramic formats.
My work is site specific, often made travelling away on residencies around the UK or participative projects in response to a particular location. A recent example of this is an experimental drawing residency at Yinka Shonibare’s Guest Projects studio in Hackney.
This year at the Open Studios I will be exhibiting drawings and paintings made on the various lines of the London Underground. The drawings are fast and furious, showing both the people and the distinctive environment.
I will also be showing work inspired by the bright colours and changing seasons of Cannizaro Park.
