One of the joys & challenges of portraiture is that every face is different and each person has a unique and personal story to tell, each subject comes with new challenges. I seek to capture not simply the fundamental likeness of my subject but realize subtle nuances that reveal insight and depth in the personality of each individual sitter.
My approach is predominantly traditional. Portrait sittings usually take place either at my studio or more commonly at the sitter’s home or place of business, preferably in a setting conducive to a relaxed atmosphere. I prefer to work from life whenever possible although this may not always be feasible in which case reference photos are taken in order to reduce the time and inconvenience to the sitter. The time scale for completing a work will vary according to size and composition and will be discussed individually with each client.
